Koutarou Azumamiya (東宮 康太郎 Azumamiya Kōtarō?) is the master of Kaede Nonohara and a member of the kendo club who is considered the weakest member of the club because his strikes are random and dangerous. He has a vulgar mouth, which obligates Kaede to scold him accordingly in his duty to refine his master into a gentleman. When he is in trouble, he calls for Kaede to fight for him. With the exception of Hayate Ayasaki, he always picks fights with those who have the highest possibility of being weaker than he is.
Appearance[]
Koutarou has short brown hair and blue eyes.
While in the Kendo Club, he wears a kendo outfit but while in school he wears a Hakuo uniform.
Story[]
Introduction[]
Koutarou first appeared when Hayate Ayasaki took a look at the Kendo Club and challenged him, after seeing him being friendly with Hinagiku Katsura. But, his butler Kaede Nonohara fought for him and he only ended up being hit by his own butler's attack.
Participating in the Hakuo Marathon[]
Later, Koutarou appears again in the marathon race with his butler. Kaede Nonohara challenges Hayate Ayasaki when they meet, and Koutarou attempts to provoke them. However, this causes Kaede to turn on him, and Hayate and Nagi Sanzenin use this distraction to run off.
Mt. Takao Arc[]
Before the beginning of the new semester, Kaede Nonohara left Koutarou behind in Japan to study abroad in England, causing Koutarou to lose his self-esteem. Upon seeing him on the first day back at Hakuo Academy, he tries to recruit Hayate Ayasaki. Later, as he and the others were on a mountain hike, he displayed a moment of bravery against a bear, to which Hayate commended him for after saving his life.
Mangaka Arc[]
Koutarou appears again as an assistant for Gouji Ashibashi and reveals that his family are mangakas too.
Etymology[]
- The name Koutarou means "peace/peaceful" (康) (kou), "thick, big, great" (太) (ta) and "son" (郎) (rou).
- Koutarou's surname Azumamiya means "east" (東) (azuma) and "temple, shrine, palace" (宮) (miya).
Trivia[]
