Hayate no Gotoku! OVA Vol.B (ハヤテのごとく OVA Vol.B Hayatenogotoku! ovu~a Vol.B?) is the second OVA of the Hayate no Gotoku! 10th anniversary OVAs. This OVA was bundled with the release of the limited edition of Hayate no Gotoku! Manga Volume 42 on September 18th 2014.

Differences in the Manga

Chapter 149
  • During Nagi's explanation to Maria of how "Hiking" is a legendary ritual that even brings fear to the dead. Nagi is shown to be wearing a short orange sweater over a beige shirt. In the manga, Nagi wore a black turtle neck shirt.
  • After Maria tells Nagi to attend the Hakuo hiking trip, Hayate tells Nagi that when he was a child he read a book that had a saying: "it can be done. so long as you borrow the powers of Tinkerbell, nothing is impossible", before asking her to allow him to be her Tinkerbell. This is not present in the manga.
Chapter 153
  • After reaching the summit of Mt. Takao, Hinagiku, Chiharu, Aika, Risa and Miki are shown to be wearing zipped up track jackets and track pants. In the manga, Hinagiku wore a unzipped yellow hooded sweatshirt over a black T-shirt, Chiharu wore a long sleeved black T-shirt, Aika wore an unzipped hooded sweatshirt over a black shirt, Risa wore a black T-shirt and Miki wore an orange button up shirt.
    • Additionally, the raccoon Nagi had carried up to the summit was omitted in this OVA.
  • As Hayate, Wataru, Kotetsu, Koutarou and Yukiji rendezvous with the rest of the Hakuo class on the summit, Nagi immediately notices their condition and asks Hayate on why he was ragged. In the manga, Nagi notices Koutarou clinging to Hayate's arm.
  • Afterwards, Hayate tells Nagi that "various stuff happened", before Yukiji shrugs off that she almost died during the trip and suggests for the class to eat their lunch. In the manga, Nagi misinterprets Hayate's line of how "he attacked and was attacked" and pries apart Hayate and Koutarou, while reminding them that they were both boys, before much to her dismay, Kotetsu hugs Hayate from behind.
  • Afterwards, Miki asks Yukiji on Izumi's whereabouts, which causes Yukiji to remember that she had left Izumi behind on a tree on the Mt. Takao trail. This is absent in the OVA.
  • During lunch, Hayate informs Nagi that they have to work hard to descend the mountain, which causes her to realize that they have to go down by foot. This is not present in the manga.
Chapter 154
  • After Maria had told Hayate that Hakuo Academy was on holiday due to "Sabbath", he questions her if it was a religious holiday. This is not present in the OVA.
    • Additionally, during this scene, Hayate is shown with Maria as they walk down a hallway to Nagi's room. In the manga, Hayate was in a room carrying a tray of tea.
  • As Maria shows Hayate Nagi's condition after she had hiked Mr. Takao, Nagi is shown to be wearing a green short sleeved jacket over a white long sleeved shirt. In the manga, Nagi wore a sleeveless ruffled shirt over a black long sleeved shirt.
    • Additionally, in this scene Nagi is shown to be leaning on her bed frame. In the manga, Nagi was leaning on a dresser.
  • While cleaning the floors of the indoor hot spring, Hayate is shown to be wearing shoe covers. In the manga, he was seen without them.
  • As Maria turns on the indoor sauna, the activation switch is shown to have two buttons. In the manga, the switch only had one button.
  • After the circuit breaker went out, Hayate accidently touches Maria causing her to get annoyed with his "pranks" before she accidently trips and falls on top of him. In the manga, Maria only trips and falls on top of him.
  • While in a compromising position, Hayate questions Maria on why the steam from the vents is still filling the room, to which she then deduces that the lighting is on another circuit path before she succumbs to the heat and collapses on him. This is not present in the manga.
  • After Maria sits up, she reveals to Hayate that her skirt is caught and couldn't move. Hayate then attempts to stand up, before falling on top of her. This is not present in the manga.
  • After having fallen on top of her, Hayate reveals to Maria that his legs where entangled with her skirt. In the manga, it is never specified on what her skirt is caught on.
  • After Maria had told Hayate that the only way they could move was by taking off her skirt, she is shown taking off her skirt as Hayate was on top of her. In the manga, Hayate had crawled out from underneath her and turned his back from her as she took it off.
  • After Maria had told Hayate that not saving her after she had collapsed was more unforgiveable, she succumbs to the heat and falls against Hayate's back. This is not present in the manga.
  • After Tama had locked Hayate in a cage, Tama tells him to stay in there and cool his head. This is not present in the manga.
    • Additionally, Tama is shown to be wearing a security guard uniform. This is also not present in the manga.
Chapter 359
  • During Ayumu's meeting with a teacher, Ayumu is shown to be wearing her winter Shiomi High School uniform. In the manga, she wore her summer uniform.
    • Additionally, the teacher is shown to be wearing a long sleeved button up shirt. In the manga, he wore a short sleeved button up shirt.
  • After Ayumu had told her teacher that her aspiration is to be a musician, the teacher advises her to use her time over the weekends to think about her future. In the manga, the teacher tells her to use her time during summer break.
  • After her meeting with a teacher, Ayumu begins to ponder about her future before she notices Mitsumi Seto announce to the Shiomi swim club that she would become a lifeguard. Ayumu then realizes that some people have dreams for their future. This is not present in this OVA.
  • While on her way home, Ayumu fantasizes about being married to Hayate. During her wedding scene, Ayumu is shown to be wearing a strapless wedding dress. In the manga, she is shown to be wearing an off the shoulder wedding dress.
  • During the end of Ayumu's fantasy sequence, as Hayate tells her that he is out of excuses and their debt is ten times now, Ayumu nervously laughs while giving him a smile. In the manga, she tells him that she could have some of her relatives sell some land.
  • As Hayate and Nagi approach Ayumu from behind, Nagi is shown to be wearing her winter Hakuo Academy uniform. In the manga, she wore her summer uniform.
  • At Café Donguri, as Ayumu asks Nagi on how to become rich, they are both seen drinking coffee. This is not present in the manga.
  • As Ayumu stopped Nagi from leaving the café, Ayumu says that "somewhere inside her body there must be an egg of talent that would allow her to earn big bucks." In the manga, she said that she had the potential for some kind of talent that would allow her to earn money.
  • After leaving Café Donguri, Ayumu asks Nagi on how her dream of becoming a mangaka is going, before she brings up the time of how she was aiming to sell 50 copies of a doujinshi she had worked hard on. This is absent in the OVA.
  • Afterwards, as Nagi and Ayumu are discussing ideas for Nagi's next doujinshi. They are both shown to be sitting at a swing set at a nearby park. This is not present in the manga.
  • After Nagi had told Ayumu that she might have the ability to bring out the "egg" in others, Ayumu returns to the Violet Mansion with a chicken and asks Hayate on how he felt about chicken farms. This is not present in the manga.
  • After the chicken had gotten free from Ayumu and she chases after it, Tama says a quote used by Walt Disney. In the manga, the narrator says it.

Trivia

  • As Hayate tries to encourage Nagi into hiking Mt. Takao, he tells her that when he was a child he had read a book that had a saying: "it can be done. so long as you borrow the powers of Tinkerbell, nothing is impossible". This is a reference from the story Peter Pan.
  • During the opening of "Hayate theatrical masterpiece", the narrator (Maria) brings up Jean Webster's novel Daddy-Long-Legs.
  • Afterwards, as Hayate and Tama look at the Sanzenin Mansion, Hayate refers to Tama as Patrasche. This is a reference to a character from the novel and anime series A Dog of Flanders.
  • During Ayumu's fantasy of being married to Hayate, she mentions that she would own a mini-co*** as a car. This is a reference to Toyota's Corolla and BMW's Mini Series.
  • As Ayumu chases after the chicken she had brought to the Violet Mansion, Tama says: "I'm neither an excellent artist nor an excellent animator. There are always many talented people around me who work on my behalf."  This is a reference to a quote used by Walt Disney.
