Hayate no Gotoku!! 2nd Season Episode 25, title name as "It's About The Butler And His Lady" (執事とお嬢様の話ですから Shitsuji to Ojō-sama no Hanashi desu kara?) aired on September 18th 2009.

Synopsis

After working her first part time job and attending Sakuya's birthday party, Nagi got sick. Nagi called Hayate for apple juice and realized Maria is missing. Hayate said Maria went out, Klaus won't come back until tommorow, Tama and Shiranui are in a pet hotel for a checkup, and they're alone in the mansion! Nagi ask Hayate to make her sleep somehow. First, Hayate offered to show Miku (Hatsune Miku) dance to his original lullaby song, which is obviously rejected. So Hayate read her of a story about Alice in Wonderland, at least, a weird version of it. Hinagiku is Alice (which take over Wonderland and turn it into the United States of Japan). Nagi didn't like it and Hayate said it will be continued next week (There won't be a next week, this is the final episode of season 2 ). Nagi still won't sleep even when Maria is back, so Hayate offered her to watch ants with a camera. Nagi asked him to buy Packy instead and fix his necktie. It is revealed she put the camera on his necktie. Hayate is seen chasing a cat to get a fish that the cat stole from Sonia (The Nun). Then his special trait, being super unlucky, activates! He realized he forget his wallet and has to work in Sakuya's maid cafe for 1 hour to gain money. Then Wataru talks to him and with Maria's lip reading skills (Lot More Accurate than Hayate's) discovers Nagi is renting a video with bath scenes in it. Then after helping a lot of people he finally reaches the stores only to find out that the Packy has gone extinct. Thanks to his infinite bad luck, everyone suddenly gets the urge to eat Packy. He is suprised while seeing one after another person eating Packy passed by him. He saw Hinagiku eating Packy too and since Hayate needed Packy she put a Packy to his mouth and with his incredible luck with girls, other girls started feeding him with Packy too. Nagi got jealous and asked him to go home but Hayate said he knows a super secret 100-year old store that only a few people know. He went to that store only to find out that there's only one packy there and Ayumu took it, but Hayate doesn't dare ask her to give the Packy. He goes to neighboring towns and prefectures until he reaches the end of the world without a Packy. He decided to go to the cafe where he does his part-time job to make a homemade Packy. When walking home after making the Packy, in front of the mansion he saw a soccer ball rolling into the road and grabbed it. Then a truck appeared out of nowhere trying to crash into Hayate. Nagi runs outs with tears and found out despite his endless bad luck, Hayate still had some good luck in him as the ball acted as a bumper and saved him from certain death. He apologizes for breaking the camera on his necktie (he knew it from the start) and gave her the ruined homemade Packy). The next morning woke up Nagi and she pretended to still be sick. It's obvious to Hayate and Maria. And so the story goes on...

Differences in the Manga

Chapter 147
  • After Nagi had asked Hayate to do something that would make her sleepy, Hayate offers to show her Miku dancing to an original lullaby he had made. In this episode, Miku is shown to be doing the Caramelldansen. In the manga, Miku was shown with a leek.
  • After having offered to read Nagi a picture book, Hayate attempts to read a book written by the author Darren Shan. This is absent in this episode.
  • When Hayate offered to read Nagi Alice in Wonderland, Alice, the White Rabbit and the Cheshire Cat are shown on the cover. In the manga, only the Cheshire Cat and the White Rabbit are shown.
  • In the beginning of his version of Alice in Wonderland, Hayate starts the story with "Once upon a time, celestial beings who wished all war gone." In the manga, he started the story with "Universal Century 0078, Alice awoke and a mysterious world unveiled itself to her."
    • Additionally, in this scene, an Orbital Elevator is seen in the background. In the manga a Space Colony is seen.
  • In the manga, when the rabbit (Miki) was showing Alice (Hinagiku) the moving road, a lever switch controlling the road can be seen. In this episode, the road is seen without it.
  • During Hayate's explanation of how the moving road works, the three rabbits (the Hakuo Three Amiga) are shown giving a demonstration of how running faster is the only way to advance on it. This is not present in the manga.
Chapter 148

  • As Wataru and Isumi where on their way to school, Wataru suggests for the both of them to get along, causing Sakuya to ask him if he was asking Isumi out on the first day of school, to which Saki then appears behind him asking for an explanation. This is not present in the manga.
  • During the assembly at Hakuo Academy, Fumi complains to Sharna about the person giving the speech taking too long, to which Sharna then threatens to punch Fumi in the face if she didn't listen to others. This is not present in the manga.
  • While on their way to wake up Nagi, Maria brings up the new school term, to which Hayate tells her that he is now a second year high school student. This is absent in this episode.

Trivia

Cultural References

  • This episode parodied some parts of Mobile Suit Gundam 00: the Orbital Elevator, the book about GN Drive Particle theory and Nagi called Aeolia Schenberg's name.
  • Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid appears on Nagi's computer while doing the Caramelldansen.
  • Hayate reads to Nagi his version of Alice in Wonderland.
  • Having finished his version of Alice in Wonderland, Hayate tells Nagi that Alice had taken over the country, which was now known as "The United States of Japan". This is a reference to what Japan is called after it was taken back from Britannia in the series Code Geass.
  • The snack Packy, which Nagi orders Hayate to buy for her in this episode, is a parody of the snack Pocky.
  • This episode also parodies Magical Princess Minky Momo, better known as Gigi. The scene where Hayate is struck by a truck perfectly mirrors Gigi's death, down to the toy ambulance. Gigi reincarnates later and Hayate shows up unhurt.
