The chapter starts with Klaus questioning Maria about Nagi's decision to hire Hayate as her new butler. After hearing her description of Hayate, he comically mistakes Hayate for a gundam and demands that Maria fire him in two days. While Maria muses about the misunderstanding between Hayate and Nagi, Hayate finds that Nagi's mansion is in fact a secondary residence, and is relatively small. Hayate goes on to comment about how he feels nervous living under the same roof with 'a cute girl', which Nagi assumes refer to herself, but gets enraged when she finds out that Hayate is refering to Maria.
The next day, Hayate dons his new butler uniform, commenting on how nice it is. While Maria is troubled about whether she should fire Hayate, Hayate resolves not to get fired from his job so as to pay back his debt. Hayate meets Nagi and shows off his new suit to her, but is startled by her giving him the gold shoulder, and action which Nagi regrets right after. Hayate then goes off to do housework. Meanwhile, Nagi tells Maria not to let Hayate anywhere near his room, and then runs out of the door looking for Hayate. Hayate then bursts into the room through another door, and Maria comments that some people never seem to cross paths. She then goes with Hayate to inspect the cleaning he has done, and is surprised at his standard and quality of work.
Hayate decides to explore the mansion to get familiarized to it, but ends up going into Nagi's room, where he discovers her manga work, which he mistakes as a picture diary. Nagi finds him, and, enraged, demands that he leave her room. Hayate however misunderstands this as her firing him, so he leaves the mansion and is promptly kidnapped by three loansharks. Maria tells Nagi of Hayate's actions, and a fake ending panel pops up, which Nagi immediately disputes.
